WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Two teenagers were killed after a shooting that took place at a graduation party in Wichita late Saturday night.
According to the Wichita Police Department, officers were called to the graduation party at a northeast banquet hall around 11:20 p.m. to a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers found Boisy Barefield, 17, of Wichita, with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to the police, an investigation revealed that during the party, a riot occurred between two groups which led to the fatal shooting.
The department said dozens of people were at the party.
“I would say 50 to 100, just an estimate,” captain Travis Easter said.
As people were leaving the scene of the shooting, a 15-year-old girl was hit by a car.
“There were several cars leaving the scene at the same time,” Easter said. “I have received reports of several cars driving away at high speed.”
She was taken to an area hospital where she later died of her injuries. His identity has not been revealed.
Police say 18-year-old Samara Rockmore was arrested for misdemeanor hit-and-run. An investigation is underway.
