St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church in Park Slope was closed for construction when the burglar struck between 6:30 p.m. Thursday and 4 p.m. Saturday, police said.
The thief entered the Sixth Avenue church near Sterling Place and opened an ornate altar, stealing the pure 18-karat gold tabernacle, cops said. The scammer also got away with the severed head of an angel statue.
