MP for Kew Tim Smith said Josh Frydenberg was overtaken by a “wealthy political amateur” in the seat where the Liberal Party was founded.
Mr Frydenberg lost the Blue Ribbon seat of Kooyong to rival and independent Teal candidate Dr Monique Ryan.
Mr Smith said the federal election was a ‘disaster’ for the Liberals and now was the time for the party to be ‘warriors’ for silent Australians.
“The Liberal Party has represented nothing in this election, absolutely nothing,” Mr Smith told Sky News Australia.
“I still don’t know what the economic message was other than ‘we’re better than the rest’.”
