All but five City ALM players had COVID-19

Melbourne City coach Patrick Kisnorbo has revealed the depth of the COVID-19 crisis at his club, saying all but five of the men’s A-League squad have had the virus.

City are set to face Wellington Phoenix in the FFA Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night, but Kisnorbo said he would not be sure they would be able to step onto the pitch until a training evaluation on Tuesday .

“We’ve only had maybe five that haven’t had COVID… it’s crazy,” he said.

“We have boys coming back, but how they are feeling, I don’t know.

“Some boys have only been training for two days.

“We are going to be strangers. We have to adapt.”

Kisnorbo said current cases were limited to “two young boys” and the coaching staff “had been OK”.

“The bottom line is that the health of the players is the most important,” he said.

“We have players available for selection… what the bench will be, I don’t know.

“What will be the starting 11, I don’t know.”

City were last in action in the pre-Christmas derby against Melbourne Victory on December 18, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
