Australia to strike $ 3.5 billion tank deal with the United States

Australia will purchase more than 120 new tanks and armored vehicles under a $ 3.5 billion deal with the United States.

Defense Minister Peter Dutton is expected to confirm the deal today after the US government approved the purchase last year.

Billion dollar upgrade follows earlier focus on other assets such as submarines, jet fighters and long-range missiles, as China’s rise threatens the Indo -Peaceful.

The tanks will replace the Army’s 59 M1A1 Abrams that were brought back in 2007.
