A white Honda Jazz hatchback was stolen from outside a grocery store in Klemzig with a four-month-old baby in the backseat. Police released CCTV footage of the thief. Did you see him or the car?
A man stole a car with a four-month-old baby in the back seat as the mother quickly grabbed an item from a grocery store in Klemzig.
The woman left her car unlocked while in the store when the man pulled up in a stolen Mazda utility vehicle and stole her vehicle.
Her white 2009 Honda Jazz car, S619AXE, was stolen at Fourth Ave, Klemzig, at around 7.45am with her baby in the back seat.
The thief is described as Caucasian, in his twenties with black hair.
Allan Porter was working at the deli when the incident unfolded and said the woman tried to arrest the man.
“The client ran out to try to stop her, she went halfway in front of the car, but she backed up a bit because I think she thought she was going to get run over,” he said. he declares.
“She was only here for a minute or two, it all happened so fast.”
He said he didn’t recognize the man.
“I ran to the window, but the moment I saw him he was in the car wearing a surgical mask so I could only see his eyes,” he said.
Mark Blackborough lives in a house adjacent to the deli and said he heard the commotion just before 8am.
“We just heard voices of what sounded like a man and a woman, but disconnected because it’s a busy place with the bus stop and the grocery store,” he said. .
“We didn’t realize the gravity of what was happening.”
He said he was unaware of the incident until he read the South African police social media post.
“You kind of wonder what I could have done?” he said.
He urged the attacker to surrender.
“God knows what he did, but you can’t drive around town with a kid in the back of the car.”
The stolen Honda was last seen heading towards Windsor Grove.
