Biden plans to suspend federal gas tax as NYC sees record prices

Record gasoline prices have been seen in New York in recent days. A Citgo along the Bruckner Expressway was charging $5.49 for a gallon of regular gasoline on Monday.

Biden said Monday from his home in Delaware that he was considering temporarily suspending the federal gas tax. A decision should be made by the end of the week.

If the federal gasoline tax suspension were put into effect, drivers would save about 18 cents per gallon.

It comes after New York introduced its gasoline tax exemption, which dropped 16 cents per gallon in early June. It should last until the end of the year.

It’s unclear when the potential federal gas tax break would end if it took effect.
