Brown reclaims Australian time trial crown

Tokyo Olympian Grace Brown topped the elite women’s time trial on day one of the Australian Road Cycling Championships.

Brown reclaimed the title she first won in 2019, crushing her rivals at Mount Helen near Ballarat.

The 29-year-old rider completed the 28.6 km course in 41 minutes 26.68 seconds on Wednesday afternoon.

Emerging South Australian Amber Pate was 1: 01.43 behind in second and Lisa Jacob took bronze in 42: 40.77.

Brown had finished second in the time trial in the last two national championships behind Sarah Gigante, who is incapacitated with heart disease.

Brown confirmed her status as the best Australian in the women’s time trial with her fourth place in the middle of a stellar field at the Tokyo Games.

Wednesday’s final event is the elite men’s time trial, where Rohan Dennis and Luke Durbridge, like Brown, are the big favorites.
