The number of people with COVID-19 who are hospitalized continues to rise in Ontario, as 12 new deaths were reported on Monday.

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said 2,467 people have been hospitalized with the disease, while noting that not all hospitals report on weekends. This is twice as many as the 1,232 people reported to hospital with COVID-19 a week ago.

There are 438 people with COVID-19 in intensive care units on Monday, up from 248 patients a week ago.

The seven-day moving average of people in intensive care is 349 people, Elliott said.

Critical care statistics are now one of the key indicators of the spread of the virus across the province.
