GENEVA, May 24, WAM / The seventy-fifth session of the World Health Assembly has re-elected Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as Director-General of the World Health Organization for a second five-year term, starting officially on August 16, 2022.
The World Health Organization said today’s vote was the culmination of an electoral process that began in April 2021 when Member States were invited to submit nominations for the post of Director-General and President. Executive Board of the World Health Organization, which met in January 2022, nominated Dr Tedros for a second term.
It is reported that Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was the only nominee and according to the rules and procedures of the World Health Assembly, the Director General can only be nominated once.
