Erik ten Hag has a number of areas to address when he arrives in England at the end of the current campaign. The future Manchester United boss will have to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
The Red Devils need more options in several departments. Ten Hag could even sanction the move of a new left-back given Alex Telles’ recent form and Luke Shaw’s fitness issues since the turn of the year.
If United are keen on signing a new left-back, who could they explore? Let’s look at three potential options.

Borna Sosa (Stuttgart)
Borna Sosa is a talent that seems virtually guaranteed to move this summer. He is currently under contract with Stuttgart, but a number of top clubs have expressed interest in his services, including Barcelona, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Croatian international is 24 years old and since his promotion to the Bundesliga last season, he has registered an impressive 16 assists. Sosa proved to be a creative outlet for Stuttgart, having also helped the ball progress from deeper areas.
He possesses an accurate delivery of crosses and often takes set pieces for his team, which is a trait he shares with Shaw and Telles. As an attacking full-back who could continue to improve at Old Trafford, Sosa looks destined for a big move.
Jose Gaya (Valencia)
United’s dressing room has been dysfunctional this season. Ten Hag will need to improve the atmosphere behind the scenes once in charge of the team, and one left-back who would likely improve that issue is Jose Gaya.
Now 26, the Spaniard is an established performer for Valencia and, most importantly, he’s the captain of the La Liga side. Gaya is attacking and since the start of last season he has registered 10 assists in the Spanish top flight while scoring three times.
He has made at least 23 starts in each of his last five league campaigns and this season he currently has 19. As a balanced, reliable and consistent player, he could be one of the best options available to United. In the coming months. With a contract due to expire in the summer of 2023, Gaya could soon be acquired at a reasonable price.
David Raum (Hoffenheim)
David Raum is a talent that has burst onto the scene over the past 18 months. He was contracted to Greuther Furth last season and managed to record 13 assists for them in the sub-Bundesliga division.
As a result, Ralf Rangnick’s former club – Hoffenheim – acquired his services last summer. The German club bought him on a free transfer and since then he has posted nine assists in his first season in the German top flight, while scoring three times.
Raum turned 24 last week, and his rapid development has even led Hansi Flick to call him up to represent the national team. He’s contracted until 2026 at Hoffenheim, suggesting he could prove costly, but Raum looks worth a hefty fee.
