The local health unit reported the COVID-related deaths of a 70-year-old woman and an 80-year-old woman on Tuesday. Both lived in the general community.

The number of deaths from the pandemic in the region now stands at 505.

Hospitals in the region have 69 COVID patients, including 16 in intensive care.

The hospital announced on Tuesday that outbreaks had been declared on two floors of its Ouellette campus – 6 East and 2 North – as well as on the 8 North floor of the Met campus.

Two additional units are on “high alert” and are being monitored for possible epidemics: 7 north at the Ouellette campus and 4 north at the Met campus. Fewer than five patients tested positive on each of these floors.

Admissions to the affected units are continuing.

“Due to the volume of patients and staff affected by these outbreaks, we recommend that anyone discharged from the hospital watch their symptoms and attempt to self-isolate for 10 days after discharge,” the hospital said in a written press release.

“Precautions remain in place on both campuses and in all units to identify potential epidemics at an early stage. All patients are tested for COVID-19 upon admission to hospital and again after admission to hospital, whether symptomatic or not. “

The health unit also reported 140 other infections on Tuesday, however, due to limited testing capacity, the number of cases is “an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex”.

To date, 29,520 local residents have tested positive for COVID-19. Of these cases, 3,323 are active and 25,692 cases are considered resolved.

Six more long-term care homes and retirement homes have joined the outbreak list, bringing the number of local outbreaks in the area to 17.

There are also community outbreaks in 21 group homes, workplace outbreaks in four farm facilities, one daycare outbreak, and outbreaks at the Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare and the Ouellette campus of the Windsor Regional Hospital. .
