Fire at the border: the crews stop the fire

SAN DIEGO — Crews from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection put out a bushfire Friday afternoon near the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said.

The fire, located near the Otay Mountain Truck Trail and Doghouse Junction on Otay Mountain, has been contained on 40 acres and is 5% contained, CalFire officials said on Twitter.

SkyFOX was over the area around 1:30 p.m., showing thick smoke among the trees and brush on the mountain.

Firefighters were airlifted by helicopter due to limited ground access and will remain on site overnight and through Saturday, officials said.
