Snowmobile grocery race

With deep snow on the ground in Campbell River, a resident thought his car couldn’t get to the grocery store and decided to make the trip the Northwest Territories way, using a snowmobile instead.

It did not go well with the local RCMP.

“While many can understand that this seems like a logical decision – even to the officer present – it is not legal,” said a social media post from the Campbell River RCMP.

Police said fines for driving snowmobiles on city roads or sidewalks can be steep and the snowmobile could be towed.

In British Columbia, the only roads on which snowmobiles are allowed are forest service roads – and only when the road is not cleared of snow and not accessible to other vehicles.
