Husband of slain Texas teacher dies ‘of a broken heart’

The indescribably sad Texas school shooting took another tragic turn on Thursday.

The husband of one of the teachers killed in Tuesday’s bloodbath has also died, his family said.

Irma Garcia was killed Tuesday while trying to protect her students at Robb Elementary School. On Thursday, a family member revealed that Garcia’s husband, Joe, died “due to a medical emergency.”

Debra Austin, who said she is a cousin of Irma Garcia, shared the sad story on a GoFundMe page.

“I truly believe Joe died of a broken heart and losing the love of his life for over 30 years was too much to bear,” she wrote.

Irma Garcia, 46, and Eva Mireles, 44, were the two teachers killed when an armed teenager entered the school and started shooting. The shooter also killed 19 students before being killed by cops.

According to her page on the Uvalde Schools website, Irma and Joe Garcia were married for 24 years and had four children.

John Martinez, who identified himself as Irma Garcia’s nephew, shared his grief on Twitter.

“EXTREMELY heartbreaking and come with deep sadness to say that my Tia Irma’s husband Joe Garcia passed away due to grief,” he wrote. “I’m really at a loss for words about how we all feel, PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR FAMILY, God have mercy on us, it’s not easy.”
