‘It’s like a hurricane out there’: Intense rain hits northeast New Jersey

A thunderstorm brought heavy rain and moderate flooding to Howell Township, New Jersey on the evening of Friday, August 5. The National Weather Service on Friday issued a flash flood warning and a severe thunderstorm warning for the region, predicting high winds, possible hail, and water accumulation on roads. John Napoli, a resident of Howell, shared footage of heavy rain that he said looked like a hurricane. Just over four inches of rain fell in his area and “significantly overflowed” a nearby creek, according to his personal rainfall tracker. “Well it’s a way to end a drought,” Napoli wrote on Twitter.
