Magpies young gun Nick Daicos prepared for role switch to cover star teammate

A midfield opportunity may arise for Collingwood young gun Nick Daicos against West Coast on Saturday.

With Magpies star Jordan De Goey suspended for the Round 4 match at Marvel Stadium, Daicos could play a more prominent midfield role against the Eagles.

Since debuting in Round 1, the 19-year-old father-son has played mostly across half-back, but did attend four center bounces in last week’s loss to Geelong.

Daicos was asked on SEN’s Dwayne’s World if he’ll get more midfield minutes in De Goey’s absence.

“Yeah, I think so,” he replied.

“It’s something I’ve spent a bit of time on over the last few weeks, to make sure that if the opportunity does arise in the midfield, I’ll be ready to go.

“I think that’s where I do play my best footy, but then at the same time, there’s so many bokes that can run through there and play really strongly.

“Wherever I’m positioned this week or moving forward, I hope I know the role well enough to play my part.”

Daicos, the Round 3 Rising Star nominee, is averaging 25 disposals and 3.67 defensive rebounds per game in 2022.
