Manchester United are ‘preparing’ a £115m double swoop for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber and Benfica star Darwin Nunez this summer.
This is according to a report from the Mirror. It is claimed that new manager Erik ten Hag has asked United to move for the duo, who are described as ‘primary targets’.
United have been heavily linked with the two players in recent weeks ahead of the summer transfer window opening in less than a fortnight on June 10. Despite not turning 21 until next month, Timber has garnered a wave of admiration in recent months, producing a string of fine performances at Ajax. He is solid defensively and not afraid to drift forward with the ball at his feet.
Nunez, meanwhile, is also getting a lot of attention. The Benfica striker has been in inspired form this season, scoring 34 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions.
He is linked with a range of top clubs across Europe and United is one of them. Ten Hag is prioritizing the addition of a new striker this summer and links linking Nunez with a move to Old Trafford continue to bubble.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag is keen to attack Ajax for another of their former players, Edson Alvarez. That’s according to a report from The Athletic, who claim the Dutchman is a huge admirer of the versatile player.
Able to play as both a centre-back and a defensive midfielder, Alvarez played a key role in helping Ajax clinch their final Eredivisie title this season, winning the club’s Player of the Year award. He has made 41 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals.
Ajax are said to value Alvarez at £18m, meaning he could be a bargain for United if he continues to develop on his current trajectory. The 24-year-old joined the Dutch giants from Club America in 2019.
