George McCaskey to address media after firing Nagy, Pace originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
Change is on the way. The Chicago Bears have announced that head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace have been relieved of their duties.
It comes after the losing first season of the Nagy era, but the last step on a transcendent 12-4 season in 2018. Nagy was drafted as an offensive guru and quarterback, but the Bears have had some time. wrong in these two areas.
And at 1 p.m. CT, Bears president George H. McCaskey will speak to the media on Zoom from Halas Hall.
It’s remarkable because it’s McCaskey speaking and not Ted Phillips, because those decisions were up to Phillips.
Prior to Monday there had been speculation and rumors that Phillips could focus more on the business side of things and Pace could be promoted to head of football operations, still paving the way for another GM to enter the bosom.
While that ultimately did not happen, Phillips did not speak to the media on Monday seems to indicate that part of this reshuffle at the top of the organization may have come to fruition.
The answers will become clearer on Monday afternoon.
Tonight at 6 p.m. CT, NBC Sports Chicago will air a special edition of the Football after-show to recap the news and what McCaskey told the media. Host David Kaplan will be joined by former Bears head coach Dave Wannstedt and insider Adam Hoge.
