Missing person: Coast Guard searches for 17-year-old boy who disappeared while fishing near San Luis Pass bridge

FREEPORT, Texas (KTRK) – The Coast Guard is searching for a 17-year-old boy who disappeared in the water Saturday near the San Luis Pass bridge.

Authorities said they received a report from the Galveston Police Department around 8:37 p.m. regarding the teenager who was last seen wading just north of Freeport.

The teenager is described as a Latino who is 5ft 8in tall and weighs 120lbs. He was last seen wearing blue shorts and shirtless.

ABC13 spoke with a fisherman who had been fishing in the area all night. He said the conditions Saturday night were too dangerous.

“It was very dangerous. I was going to take out some bait in the kayak, but I decided that it was potentially not very safe to be in the water. So, I put on my waders and I I felt the current. It was pulling me one way,” Bobby Hall said.

If you know of information that may assist in search efforts, we encourage you to contact Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston at 281-464-4851.

ABC13 has a crew heading to the area to find out more.
