More vaccination sites announced for children

The Government of Victoria is increasing the number of state-run sites where children aged 5 to 11 can get their first COVID-19 vaccine.

Residents of Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay will benefit from 18 additional state-run vaccination sites that will come online for childhood vaccinations, and 36 family-friendly state vaccination centers across Victoria that will join GPs , pharmacists and Indigenous-controlled community health organizations to vaccinate five to 11 years over the next two months.

These child-friendly vaccination sites will feature a friendly forest theme with images of nature and animals will create a welcoming and safe environment for children.

Support is also available for children with mild immunization anxiety, as well as children with developmental disabilities, autism and/or sensory needs.

The recommended vaccination schedule for most children in this age group is two doses of Pfizer vaccine eight weeks apart.

Acting Prime Minister Jacinta Allan said vaccination protects children and reduces transmission within families and schools.

“This is especially true for vulnerable people like grandparents,” she said.

“We are making it as easy as possible for all Victorian children to be vaccinated with additional support available for children with disabilities, autism or anxiety.”
