The Labor MP for York praised the work being done to help support and feed the city’s homeless people.

Over the weekend, Rachael Maskell visited the HOPING street food and heard about the challenges they face and the help they get from HOPING.

She said the dedication of the volunteers was incredible.

In addition to providing people with good, nutritious food, the homeless community also receives conversations and support. Volunteers show them that someone cares and wants to help.

The MP helped serve Irish stew, chicken curry, spaghetti with meatballs and cauliflower cheese.

This was followed by Apple Crumble and Custard, Lime and Lemon Cheesecake, Chocolate Tray Bakes & Chocolate Sponge Roll.

Ms Maskell said the issues of food, fuel and housing poverty must be the top priority for policymakers in London.

Jayne Venables, who is one of the HOPNG volunteers, said it was a comfort to know that the issues faced by the most vulnerable members of society can be heard in Westminster.
