Nathan Carman’s defense teams say they are fit to stand trial for his mother’s murder

RUTLAND, Vermont — Nathan Carman’s defense team has said he is fit to stand trial. Carman is charged with the murder of his mother at sea

On Friday, a federal judge in Vermont asked both the defense and the prosecution whether Carman should take a mental health evaluation. Both parties said no.

A grand jury indictment accuses Carman of killing his mother on a 2016 fishing trip and sinking their boat. Carman was later rescued.

Prosecutors said he killed his mother to inherit the family estate.

Carman says he’s not guilty.
