Earlier this week at its I/O Developer Conference, Google released the second Android 13 beta to its Pixels. At the same time, a bunch of other Android device makers have also launched their respective Android 13 beta or developer preview programs. While the announcement included mention of Nokia, at the time its developer website hadn’t been updated, so we weren’t sure which device from HMD Global’s stable would be the lucky one.
Everything changes today, and it’s the Nokia X20 that you can now test with Android 13 on board. Note though that HMD refers to this as a developer preview, not a beta, so perhaps the trim level could leave a lot to be desired.
Also note that rolling back to Android 12 at any time will require erasing all your data, so be sure to back up before trying Android 13 DP. There’s also the usual disclaimer about those builds possibly having performance and/or stability issues, so approach that at your own risk, of course.
If you really want to take the plunge, just go to the My Device app on your Nokia X20, click on the Support banner at the bottom, and scroll down to the Android developer preview. Then, after a quick IMEI check, you’re good to go. The new version will arrive as a live update within 12 hours of signing up.
If you can’t wait that long, you can manually try to get the version from 20 minutes after your successful registration process, by going to Settings > About phone > System updates. There is a pre-installed Customer Feedback app in Android 13 DP, through which you can report any issues you encounter.
If at some point you need to downgrade to Android 12, you can also request it through the My Device app.
