Patricia Brake, who played Ingrid Fletcher in Porridge, dies at 79 after battle with cancer

Patricia Brake, the English actress known for her roles in British soap operas coronation street, Emmerdale and EastEnders, passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was 79 years old.

His son, Jon McBain, confirmed the news on Twitter Sunday, writing, “I can confirm that my mother, actress Patricia Brake, passed away earlier today at the age of 79 after a long battle with cancer.”

Brake has been a constant on screens across the UK and around the world for 60 years, starring in Corri and Eldoradoalthough she was best known for her role as Ronnie Barker’s on-screen daughter, Ingrid Fletcher, in BBC’s Porridge in the 1970s.

In a statement obtained by multiple media outlets, Brake’s agent, Scott Marshall Partners, said, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our client and beloved stage and television actress, Patricia Brake. , at the age of 79, after a very long battle with cancer.”

Brake, after rising to fame playing Fletcher on Porridgereprized the role in Go straightagainst Richard Beckinsale and Nicholas Lyndhurst.

She has also worked with Barker and Robbie Corbett – known comically as The Two Ronnies – over the years, and comedy duo Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise.

Brake has performed on TV Manhunt, The Glums and Midsomer Murders on ITV throughout his career, as well as on the BBC Doctors, Victim, and City of Holby.

Born in Bath, UK, Brake joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1962 after studying at the Old Vic Theater School in Bristol.

It is with the Royal Shakespeare Company that she interprets Hermia in Dream of a summer night by Peter Hall, alongside Dame Judi Dench and Lady Diana Rigg.

Brake is survived by her two children, Hannah McBain and Jon McBain, born to her first husband, Robert McBain. She also remarried in 1997 to Michael Kennedy.
