Police and ambulance service called to York River incident

POLICE and paramedics were called to River Foss in York this afternoon after a woman in distress entered the water.

North Yorkshire Police said officers were first called to the area by a member of the public, who was concerned about a woman who appeared to be in distress.

As officers arrived at the scene, the woman began wading in the river near the junction of Huntington Road and Malton Road, a spokesperson said.

He said the woman was helped out of the river, which was shallow at the time, and taken by ambulance to hospital for examination and assistance.
