Police use pepper spray as crowds surround car outside Djokovic’s attorneys office

Melbourne police used an irritating spray on fans of tennis player Novak Djokovic on January 10, after he was released from detention following a federal court overturning a decision to revoke his visa. This footage, posted by local journalist Danielle Robertson, shows police spraying members of the crowd as they tried to stop them from circling a car leaving the offices of the player’s lawyers. It was not clear who was in the vehicle. Novak Djokovic took to Twitter on Monday following the court ruling, saying he was “satisfied and grateful” and focused on playing at the Australian Open. Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke has said he is considering the situation, the ABC said. “Following the decision rendered today by the Federal Circuit and the Family Court on procedural grounds, it remains at the discretion of Immigration Minister Hawke to consider canceling Mr. Djokovic’s visa,” said a spokesperson quoted by the ABC.
