Teens gone wild at the Melbourne Theater Company.
Revolutionary teenagers take center stage in multi-award-winning playwright Dan Giavannoni’s Slap. Bang. Kiss., opening at MTC on Thursday April 21. It starts with three actions – a slap, a bang and a kiss – that kickstart a series of events that sees three young people transformed into global symbols of revolution. Directed by Katy Maudlin, it’s a fast-moving play that subverts the stereotype of teenagers as apathetic, apolitical and disinterested people.
Slap. Bang. Kiss. stars Sarah Fitzgerald (The Great Australian Play), Conor Leach (Hell’s Canyon) and Tsungirai Wachenuka (Paw Patrol Live), and will hit the road following the season at Southbank Theater to present a series of performances in regional Victorian arts venues. There’ll also be a one-off live-streamed performance on Thursday April 28 for schools unable to go along in person.
Commissioned through MTC’s Next Stage Writers Program, Slap. Bang. Kiss. was shortlisted in the 2021 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards. With a focus on school-aged audiences, the production will be complemented by a range of digital resources to support their study and learning. MTC Education’s resources are provided free of charge, as part of their growing library of award-winning materials aimed at bumping up students’ experiences and engagement with the arts.
Performances begin on Tuesday April 19, with the official opening night taking place on Thursday April 21. Buy your tickets now via the MTC website.
