Authorities in South Florida say one person was injured after a small plane crashed into a bridge on Saturday afternoon.
WTVT-TV reported that the accident happened on the Haulover Inlet Bridge that connects Haulover Beach to Bal Harbor in Miami-Dade County.

The Bay Harbor Islands Police Department closed the area to traffic as emergency services responded to the accident.
Smoke and flames could be seen in video from the wreckage of the plane as onlookers watched the scene unfold.

“A single-engine Cessna 172 lost engine power and crashed into the Haulover Inlet Bridge on Route A1A in Bal Harbour, Florida at approximately 1:00 p.m. local time today,” the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement. at Fox News Digital. “There were three people on board. The plane struck a vehicle on the deck with three people inside. The plane took off from Fort Lauderdale International Airport with the planned destination of Key International Airport. West.”
The FAA added that it will investigate the crash with the National Transportation Safety Board.

The person injured in the crash was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to WSVN-TV.
