Sony Pushes Release Date For Jared Leto’s Marvel Film – Deadline

Sony has pushed back the Marvel movie release date Morbius, with Oscar winner Jared Leto. While the Columbia Pictures title was previously slated for release on January 28, it will now hit theaters in IMAX and premium large formats on April 1.

Deadline learns that one of the factors driving the push was Sony’s (continued) huge success with Spider-Man: No Path Home, which established itself as the highest-grossing film of 2021 when it debuted on December 17. Tom Holland’s photo has so far grossed over $ 1.37 billion worldwide and now appears to continue to do big business on screens previously saved for Morbius.

This latest superhero pic is said to have opened on its previous date opposite the IFC Films crime drama, To clean, with Adrien Brody, Glenn Fleshler, Richie Merritt and Chandler DuPont; Bradley Bell and that of Pablo Jones Soler Greenwich Entertainment Music Documentary Charli XCX: alone together; and Joe Wright’s musical adaptation of Cyrano, with Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett and Kelvin Harrison Jr., for MGM and United Artists Releasing. Now it’s ready to open up against Focus Features’ horror drama You will not be alonee, with Noomi Rapace and Alice Englert; Universal comedy by Jay Chandrasekhar Easter Sunday, with Jimmy O. Yang, Tia Carrere, Tiffany Haddish and Lou Diamond Phillips; and the STX Entertainment thriller The contractor, highlighted by Chris Pine.

In Morbius, from director Daniel Espinosa, Leto embodies the enigmatic anti-hero Michael Morbius. Dangerously stricken with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others who suffer the same fate, Dr. Morbius takes a desperate bet. While at first glance it seems like a sweeping success, an obscurity within him is unleashed. Will good outweigh evil, or will Morbius succumb to his new mysterious urges?

Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson also star in the film, based on the Marvel comics, which Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless adapted from their own on-screen story. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster produced, with Louise Rosner and Emma Ludbrook in production.
