Taco Bell drive-by shooting: suspect arrested for murder of Alejandro Garcia in south Los Angeles

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) – An arrest has been made for the murder of a 41-year-old man who was shot while working with his son at a Taco Bell drive-thru in South Los Angeles, has announced LAPD chief Michel Moore. Tuesday evening.

Moore said during a vigil for the victim that a suspect was in custody. Police said officers arrested Jonathan Madden, 39, at his southern LA home on Monday in connection with the fatal shooting.

Alejandro Garcia was working with his 19-year-old son at a fast food restaurant near the intersection of Century and Avalon boulevards on Saturday night when he was shot and killed.

Investigators said the shooting was the result of an argument that began when Garcia’s son allegedly refused to accept what appeared to be a fake $ 20 bill from a drive-thru customer.

Family members say Garcia, a father of three, worked at the restaurant one evening a week to earn extra money for his family. They say Garcia always put his family first and was known to help others.

“We are just heartbroken. There are no words to describe how much we are suffering right now because we have lost someone we loved and cared for, and it was just so. money, for food, for $ 20! ” said a moved family member during the vigil held at the Taco Bell restaurant where Garcia was killed.

A GoFundMe for Garcia and her family has since been established. He raised over $ 84,000 in donations on Tuesday night.

Madden is being held on $ 2 million bail.
