Telecom Fiber Lines The Source of North Texas Homeowners’ Plumbing Problems – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

HEATH, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Michael Mahan from Heath says it suddenly became apparent that on Christmas Eve there was a problem with his pipes.

“Everything is receding, the showers are an inch deep in the water, nothing is sinking, nothing is going down,” he said.

The plumbers got to work, suspecting a tree root was blocking a line.

“What we found,” he said, searching for the right words. “I don’t think they could have done this if they had tried.”

Two fiber optic lines, one belonging to AT&T, the other to Suddenlink, cut off its connection to the sewer.

“I couldn’t believe. They both hit a dead center in the middle, ”Mahan said.

He remembers AT&T laying a line two and a half years ago and Suddenlink some time later.

At the time, he was single, and even a partially blocked pipe seems to have settled his affairs.

Today he is married with a wife, a son and his mother living with him.

“We put a lot of pressure on the system and that’s when we noticed the problem,” Mahan said.

Since Christmas he has been trying to fix the problem.

“Who do you blame?” As if we didn’t care. We just want our toilets to flush, ”he said.

Mahan said no plumber wanted to risk cutting lines at AT&T or Suddenlink, and as of Thursday neither company showed up.

So, CBS 11 contacted the two.

The next morning, an AT&T team was at his doorstep.

In the afternoon, a Suddenlink contractor had also arrived.

“When they arrived this morning, I was super happy, like ‘Thank you!’,” Mahan said.

In a statement to CBS 11, AT&T wrote:

“As we strive to expand and improve our fiber optic network to deliver ultra-high speeds to communities, our goal is to minimize impacts on residents as much as possible. We ask our contractors to follow all necessary procedures to have utilities located before starting work. We work with our contractor to make repairs and restore any impact from our work. “

By sunset, the company crews had repaired the damage.

And Mahan, after some delay, finally got the Christmas present he was looking for.

“All I want for Christmas is for my toilet to flush,” he said with a laugh.
