Trinity Church Events: Open House and Plant Sale

Mark your calendars! You won’t want to miss a new community event at Trinity Anglican Church (1230 Bank Street at Cameron Avenue). We will be holding a plant sale – annuals, perennials and herbs – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022. This is an opportunity to buy local and perhaps discover something new for your garden or kitchen window sill.

While checking out our greenery, feel free to step inside the church to see what’s behind the red brick exterior. Trinity is once again participating in Doors Open Ottawa as one of our city’s architectural, historical or cultural gems highlighted in the twentieth edition of this event.

For over 140 years, Trinity has been a vital community hub in Old Ottawa South. It was the first Anglican church in this area, established to serve several small hamlets south of Ottawa in the days of horses and carriages. Its opening in 1879 attracted people from here and abroad who longed for a religious community and a place of social gathering. Trinity grew with the neighborhood and became a favored place of worship as well as an important location for sporting and social groups. This tradition of community involvement continues as needs evolve.

Trinity has a rich and interesting history serving Old Ottawa South and surrounding areas. Do you remember our catering tent at the annual exhibition at Lansdowne Park? Were you dazzled by the exceptional acoustics of one of the musical events featuring our Casavant pipe organ? Did you see the spectacular mural on our Bank Street wall reveal itself as the artists shared their vision? What Trinity memories do you have to share?

We look forward to welcoming visitors to Doors Open at Trinity on Saturday, June 4 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Sunday, June 5 (12 p.m. to 4 p.m.). And don’t forget to pick up something for your garden on Saturday!

Lindsay Whillans is a resident of OOS and a congregational member of Trinity Anglican Church.
