Trump slams Liz Cheney at Wyoming rally for his main opponent

Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Wyoming for a primary opponent of Rep. Liz Cheney ahead of the state’s Aug. 16 primary.

The Wyoming incumbent and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney has become Mr. Trump’s biggest enemy in the Republican Party, both for his vote to impeach Mr. Trump for his role in inciting to the January 6 riot and his subsequent role on the select committee charged with investigating the raid. at the Capitol.

“There is no RINO in America who has participated more on the radical left than Liz Cheney,” Mr. Trump told a crowd in Casper on Saturday night, also criticizing the hawkish foreign policy impulses of Ms. Cheney and his father.

“Wyoming deserves a congresswoman who stands up for you and your values. Not one who spends all her time going after your president in the most vicious way possible and loves senseless vicious bloody wars.

The former president pointed out that former President George W Bush failed to pardon Mr. Cheney’s former chief of staff, I Lewis “Scooter” Libby, whom Mr. Trump pardoned when he was president.

Mr. Trump previously endorsed Harriet Hageman, who spoke at the rally in front of Mr. Trump.

“I’m going to claim the only congressional seat in Wyoming from this Virginian who currently holds it,” she said. Ms Hageman also criticized the January 6 select committee of which Ms Cheney is vice-chair.

“We are fed up with the January 6 commission and these people who think they can give us gas,” she said to applause.

Ms. Cheney has since become persona non grata in the House GOP.

After initially rebuffing attempts to impeach her as House Republican conference speaker, Rep. Elise Stefanik – previously a moderate – replaced her with the blessing of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Mr. McCarthy and Ms. Stefanik addressed the crowd in pre-recorded video remarks.

Mr Trump also criticized the use of the word “insurgency”.

“Now look at the so-called word insurrection. January 6. What bullshit,” he said. “Most of this country knows it and you know who else knows it? The Democrats.
