Two men being treated for burns after plane crash in East Kimberley region

Two men will be transferred to Darwin with life-threatening injuries after the light plane they were traveling in crashed in Western Australia’s far north.

The men ran into trouble near East Kimberley Regional Airport before 9am today.

It is understood the plane was on fire with thick black smoke coming from the aircraft, and the men were trapped in the wreckage.

Volunteer firefighters, St John Ambulance and police attended the scene.

The incident was reported by a member of the public who was fishing at nearby Bandicoot Point, after witnessing the plane crashing between the river and airport.

Police are investigating the crash and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified.
