“Very difficult” to raise interest rates without “inspiring a recession”

Montgomery Investment Management founder Roger Montgomery said it was “very difficult” to raise interest rates to stifle inflation “without causing a recession”.

Mr Montgomery said rising energy and food prices “act like a tax” on people’s consumption.

“Then you have petrol prices, act like a tax, higher interest rates, act like a tax,” he told Sky News host Ross Greenwood.
