On Friday, the San Diego County Department of Health and Environmental Quality lifted a water contact closure for Coronado.

It includes beaches from Avenida Lunar, near Coronado Shores condominiums, to North Beach.

Authorities recently closed the area to water contact due to sewage-contaminated streams from the Tijuana River entering the United States.

The shoreline from the border at Imperial Beach to the northern end of Silver Strand State Beach will remain closed until sampling confirms the areas are safe.

For more information on the Tijuana River, call the US International Boundary & Water Commission at 619-662-7600.
