Windsor Police investigate Erie Street cafe fire after arson attack

A fire that severely damaged a business in Windsor’s Via Italia over the weekend was deemed suspicious by nature.

Windsor Police are currently investigating the incident that occurred at the GoodFellas Cafe (1125 Erie Street East) early Saturday as an arson attack.

Information is sought from the public, in particular recordings of surveillance cameras in the area at the time of the fire.

Firefighters and police responded on January 8 at around 4 a.m. to a report of smoke and flames in the cafe.

No one was injured, but the damage to the structure was significant.

The scene took place as members of the Windsor Police Arson Unit examined it, working with investigators from the Windsor Fire and Rescue Services and the Office of the Fire Marshal of the ‘Ontario.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone aware of suspicious people, vehicles or activity in the area at the time of the incident is encouraged to call the Arson Unit at 519-255-6700 ext. 4330.

GoodFellas Cafe advertises itself as offering milk, espresso and cappuccino drinks, coffee dishes and billiards.

The little café is part of a business block with a storefront on the south side of Erie Street East between Marion Avenue and Pierre Avenue.
