COLONY, NY (NEWS10) – New York State Police say one person died after a fatal crash involving two cars in the I-87 area northbound at Exit 5. Police say Vasu K Laroiya, 23, of Iselin, NJ, has been charged in connection with the accident.
During their investigation, state police determined that Laroiya was driving a 2021 Tesla Model Y on I-87 and was speeding when he collided with the rear of a 2018 Honda Civic. The Honda Civic then struck a guardrail on the east shoulder and burst into flames.
Police say the Honda Civic’s driver and sole occupant, Katryn R. Fisher, 22, of Ballston Spa, was taken to Albany Medical Center for life-threatening injuries. Fisher later died of her injuries, they said.

- Aggravated assault on the vehicle (felony).
- Second degree assault (felony).
Laroiya was arraigned in the Colony Municipal Court. He was returned to the Albany County Jail without bail.
