Woman seriously injured in shooting in River North

A woman was seriously injured in a Sunday night shooting in River North.

At around 10 p.m., the 20-year-old woman was sitting in a parked vehicle with a man in the 500 block of West Erie Street when three to four suspects approached them, Chicago police said.

A suspect reached the vehicle and punched the man in the face, police said. As the suspects walked away, one of them pulled out a gun and fired, police said.

The woman was struck in the back and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said.

The man was not shot and refused help from paramedics, police said.

Area three detectives are investigating.
