YL ready to set sail for the Opera | Fairfield City Champion

R&B entertainer Youngn Lipz, who grew up in Cabramatta and Miller, has some advice for budding artists in south-west Sydney: “Don’t be afraid to fail.”

“It wouldn’t be like this for me, if I didn’t fail,” YL said ahead of his Opera debut as part of Astral People’s lineup for Vivid LIVE on June 4.

“Hard work, consistency and keeping your feet on the ground – all the ones per center add up.”

YL said it was “crazy” to think he would perform at the Opera. Her first single Misunderstood filmed at Cabra-Vale Memorial Park in 2019 has over 11 million views on YouTube and earned it the APRA Award for Most Performed Hip-Hop/Rap Work.

“I didn’t know how people were going to react — if they could relate to it. But it turns out they can,” he said.

“I didn’t expect any of this. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Performing at the Opera isn’t just for me, it’s for the whole scene.” YL, who released his first album Baby Zone last year, said he plans to perform his favorite songs and new tunes at the iconic venue which will be transformed with a contemporary music takeover for Vivid LIVE between May 27 and June 18.

Innovative music company Astral People brings together a wide range of local and international artists for two nights, celebrating jazz, soul, hip-hop and R&B.
